Cane & Woven Furniture Repair

We specialize in the repair and restoration of cane, rattan, wicker, Danish cord, and other woven furniture. Our services include caning and weaving, as well as structural repairs, refinishing, and full restorations. For woven repairs, please see the pricing list below. Don’t see your material or style? All repair services include materials, labor, and a maintenance warranty for any defective restoration work. Client drop-off and pick-up to Long Beach, CA is preferred. For folks in Southern California, pick-up and delivery may be possible — additional fees will vary based on travel distance, and size and number of your furniture piece(s).

Rates by Repair Style

    Hand Caning

    Hand caning is distinguished by pre-drilled holes in a frame through which we weave individual rattan strips.

    Rate: $3.50 per pre-drilled hole | $4 per pre-drilled hole for pieces with 100+ holes

    Due to the strain that hand woven cane puts on wooden frames, structural repairs must often be completed before seats are re-woven. Repair costs will be estimated per project.

    Specialty Hand Caning

    In addition to traditional hand caning, we provide French (“blind”) caning, double-panel caning, and various weaving patterns. These specialty styles require more labor and/or material than traditional caning, as reflected in the elevated repair cost.

  • sheet pressed cane

    Sheet Cane

    Sheet or “pressed” cane comes as pre-woven webbing and can be identified by the thick rattan spline around the perimeter. We can replace damaged sheet cane on furniture including seats, chair backs, cabinets, closet doors, room screens, lampshades, and more.

    Rate: $10-14 per inch of your caned area’s longest dimension

    If desired, sheet cane can be stained. However, due the way cane ages, exact color matches cannot be guaranteed.

    Rattan Reed

    We weave reeds of rattan to repair seats, backs, and other furniture details. Rattan reed comes in a variety sizes and splits (e.g., binder cane, round and half-round reeds), allowing for endless options of patterns. We are happy to chat through any design ideas you may have or offer our own.

    Rate: Starting at $16 per inch of your piece’s longest rail

    Flat Reed

    Flat reed, including splint, is a type of rattan reed. These reeds comes in a range of widths, and can be woven in beautiful patterns, such as herringbone, chevron, checkerboard.

    Rate: $14-16 per inch of your seat’s longest rail

  • paper rush fiber rush

    Rush

    We offer rush weaving in a range of materials, including paper, seagrass, and other natural fibers. All rush seats will be protected with clear or amber shellac.

    Rate: $12-14 per inch of your seat’s longest rail

    Danish Cord

    Danish cord seats are woven using an authentic 3-ply seat cord. Available in natural, black, or white.

    Shaker tape is a type of fabric, typically durable cotton, that is used to weave chair seats. Whether you’re looking to restore an original or dream up a new design, we are happy to walk through colors, patterns, and styles with you.
